This term we have had great fun with our Beaks and Squeaks topic.

Our storytelling has focussed on The Owl Babies and a science storybook about push and pull forces called Bird Builds a Nest. The children have worked on lively performances of these stories along with their very entertaining variations of Two Little Dicky Birds and Five Little Ducks Went Swimming One Day (some of which never returned no matter how loudly mummy duck went Quack!).

We looked at some of the funny places that birds build their nests and have had a go at building some ourselves. We found this very tricky and now realise how clever birds are - not just the bower bird with his beautifully decorated arch! One of the class's favourite activities was making bird food - lovely and gooey! Another highlight has been seeing Poppy's two chicks... peeping out from under their mum when Poppy's mum kindly brought them into school. We are looking forward to seeing how they have changed when they visit again and are also excited about having Mrs Woodyer Ward's roosting hen in a hutch in our outdoor area. We will let you know if we manage to hatch any chicks.

As ever, and despite the cold weather, we have had a wonderful time with Mrs Finney and her kind volunteers exploring and having very real adventures at Forest School.
